Derry

Yes, The Derry Girls

Ocean view from the train

Gwyn got up at 4:00. I was awake but got up about 4:45. We finished final packing, had breakfast then walked in the rain to the station. They told us it would be platform 1 but that showed a different train. We walked up and over to platform 3. A train came to platform 1 which was our train. So, back up and over to platform 1. We had plenty of time.

It was dark when we left. The train ride was nice, and once it got light out the countryside was nice. We arrived at the Derry train station. There were people near the bus stop, and I asked a lady. She said we wanted City Centre buses and we could pay on the bus with our tap. We waited a bit, but my phone was saying to go to a different stop. So we walked up to that stop. Waited a bit and went into the city. A guy on the bus talked to us, and he helped us since the bus did not stop where it should because of construction. He led us to the Caffè Nero that we were going to. Picked up a coffee and a hot chocolate and then went to the Visitors Centre to drop off our bags.

Gleann leading our tour

We met our tour guide Gleann in front of the Tower Museum. He took us along the walls and the Bogside memorials. Again, so much recent history. Turns out that Gleann's dad was one of those shot on Bloody Sunday. He was only seven months old when that happened. Our tour was over, and since we were near the Museum of Free Derry we went in. There was a school group so we waited a bit. The belt that Gleann's dad was wearing on Bloody Sunday was on display.

Peace Bridge

After that we walked back to the center and found The Scullery Café for lunch. The food was good. Decided to visit The Guildhall since it was near. There was a big group using the main hall upstairs so our tour could not see it.

Walked over the Peace Bridge, and then walked back to the Caffè Nero for a break. We needed supper and breakfast so we tried the Centra and they did not have much. On the way to the Snug there was a Tesco so we walked up there. After that we continued to the Snug. Quite a hill to walk up. When we got there I looked at the email and realized we needed to back to the other corner of the block to check in. Connor checked us in and walked us back up to the Snug. Showed us around, and then we settled in. Supper and the Derry Girls before bed.
